Akazuki Works is a software company that designs and builds modern digital products, from scalable web platforms and backend systems to automation tools and AI-powered applications. We work on products that people actually use every day, and we care about building them properly: clean architecture, reliable infrastructure, and code that the next developer will be happy to read.
We are a small, senior-minded team. That means fewer meetings, short decision paths, and a lot of trust. Everyone on the team has a real say in how things are built, and good ideas win regardless of who proposes them. We're now looking for an experienced Python developer to join us, take ownership of important parts of our backend, and help us grow our products further.
The Role
As a Python Developer at Akazuki Works, you will be one of the key people shaping our backend. You'll design and build services from the ground up, improve existing systems, and work closely with product and frontend colleagues to deliver features end to end. This is not a role where you'll be handed narrow tickets without context. You'll understand why we're building something, have input into how it's built, and see the impact of your work directly.
What You'll Do
- Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs in Python
- Translate product requirements into clear technical solutions and realistic plans
- Work closely with product and frontend developers to deliver complete features
- Write clean, tested, and well-documented code that is easy to maintain
- Design database schemas and write efficient queries for growing datasets
- Integrate third-party services, payment providers, external APIs, and internal tools
- Build and improve background jobs, data pipelines, and automation workflows
- Monitor, debug, and improve the performance, security, and scalability of our systems
- Take part in code reviews, giving and receiving thoughtful feedback
- Contribute to technical decisions, architecture discussions, and our engineering standards
- Help document systems and processes so knowledge is shared across the team
Our Tech Stack
You don't need to know every tool on this list, but you'll work with many of them:
- Languages: Python, SQL, some JavaScript/TypeScript
- Frameworks: Django, FastAPI, Flask
- Databases: PostgreSQL, Redis
- Async and queues: asyncio, Celery, message brokers
- Infrastructure: Docker, cloud platforms (AWS / GCP), CI/CD pipelines
- Tooling: Git, pytest, linters and type checking, monitoring and logging tools
- AI: integrations with large language models and related APIs
What We're Looking For
- 3+ years of professional experience building production systems with Python
- Solid experience with at least one web framework (Django, FastAPI, or Flask)
- Good knowledge of relational databases (ideally PostgreSQL) and strong SQL skills
- Experience designing, building, and consuming REST APIs
- Familiarity with Git, automated testing (pytest), and CI/CD workflows
- Understanding of software design principles and writing maintainable code
- Ability to debug complex issues and find root causes, not just symptoms
- Self-organized working style and comfort working independently in a remote team
- Clear written and spoken communication in English
- Ability to invoice as a B2B contractor (own company or sole proprietorship)
Nice to Have
- Experience with Docker and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
- Knowledge of async programming, Celery, or message queues
- Experience with LLM/AI integrations, vector databases, or data processing pipelines
- Experience with performance optimization and working with large datasets
- Knowledge of security best practices for web applications
- Basic frontend knowledge (JavaScript/TypeScript, React)
- Experience in a startup or small product team where you owned features end to end

Your First Months
In your first weeks, you'll get to know our codebase, infrastructure, and team, and ship your first changes to production quickly. Within the first few months, you'll take ownership of specific services or features, contribute to architecture decisions, and become one of the go-to people for parts of our backend.

Hiring Process
- Application review: we read every application carefully
- Intro call (30 min): getting to know each other, your experience, and our expectations
- Technical interview (60 min): a practical conversation about Python, system design, and real problems you've solved
- Final conversation: meeting the team and discussing contract details
We aim to complete the whole process within two to three weeks and will keep you informed at every step.
